The SPCA of Hernando County that unfortunate circumstances sometimes occur in life that require people to make the difficult decision to surrender their pet. Our Care Crew makes every effort to make the surrendering process as painless as possible for both the owner and especially the pet being surrendered.

Some of the ways we make the transition from home to shelter is by introducing all new cats to their new surroundings in a calm, homelike setting.

Our dogs arrive and are immediately taken to our dog park and trails. They are introduced to the shelter and shown around their new home with a dog handler and housed in a calm and quiet receiving area for the first night or two.

All cats and dogs that we intake into the shelter are safe from being euthanized and will be loved and cared for until we are able to re-home them to a loving forever family.
